Second chance drawing leads to $1 million lottery win for Lapeer County man

LANSING, MI — A Lapeer County man says he plans on spending more time with family after he won $1 million in a second chance drawing for the Michigan Lottery’s “The Big Spin” instant game. Robert Hill, 58, was one of five players selected to take part in the drawing after turning in losing tickets.

“Winning is a big deal and this is a lot of money,” Hill said. “When it landed on $1 million all I could think was: ‘This is unreal! Really?’”

Hill won the largest prize so far in the drawing, which is hosted by former Detroit Piston John Salley. Hill elected to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of $634,000 rather than three annuity payments for the full $1 million.

“Winning gives me a cushion and means I can enjoy the rest of my life with my family,” Hill said.

Ten more players will be selected in second chance drawings with the next drawing coming this Thursday and another on Jan. 2, 2020.
