Canzano: Oregon Lottery sports gambling app under fire amid shifting odds
A look at the login page for the Oregon Lottery’s Scoreboard App, which is the state of Oregon’s first and only legal online sports betting option for Oregonians who are 21 and over. Tim Brown | The Oregonian/OregonLive.
The Oregon Lottery sports gambling operation “Scoreboard” is under fire this week.
Not in the usual way, either.
A video posted on social media showed a bettor’s attempt to wager on a NASCAR event. While attempting to confirm the bet on an individual driver (at -110 odds) the wager was instead offered with modified odds (-150). The bettor videotaped the transaction and backed out of the bet because the odds were unfavorable. But also noticed the line (still at -110) hadn’t apparently changed for anyone else who wanted to wager.
With sports returning, here come the shenanigans from some legal books.

The app will log you out for no reason. Then it will give multiple errors for no reason. I have literally lost money by not being able to log in even when I was already in with the app up and open. Additionally, if your like me and like live betting, the app will error, lag and deny bet backs and/or bets even if you try to place your bet or buyback with either no plays happening during the games or it will changed the odds multiple time in just a second and will not let you get your bet in because the odds changing while your betting. if you hit the confirm button, it is more likely that your bet odds are going to change and it going to ask you to confirm it again, and then that maddening loop will continue until you simply give up. There will be but backs displayed that will not change to 0 but will deny the buy back even though it’s a displayed option constantly.
If I place a live bet, I don’t want to wait to confirm it if it’s going to constantly deny the bet. I like having this option to bet at home, but I think the Oregon State Lottery is probably headed for a class action for people losing money because the app crashes and errors constantly. I would take part.
I’m reading a lot of the issues I have experienced first hand. (This happened on two Sundays, both after the morning games) the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard app simply logged everyone out. When trying to log back in you would get the message. “Entered wrong credentials” or something. My belief is the system was down. Or was overloaded. Because this was not only happening to me, but some friends who use the app as well at the same time. After about an hour (while your buy back bets hang in the balance**) the app allowed us to log back in. This has happened two Sundays from what I know of. And the app is offline tonight. I only can assume for maintenance.
My advice to the people who run updates or maintenance for a Oregon Lottery Scoreboard, send alerts through twitter or email. To help notify bettors of possible crashes, log-in complications, app updates, site maintenance, or simply when you plan on fixing issues that occur during important sporting events. Adding this service would improve the app greatly from a customer service perspective.
Off-shore sportsbooks send emails regarding site maintenance. Usually scheduled during off hours. This will save some of the frustration and confusion.
But as for tonight the website is down, and the app has log in errors. So I don’t know what’s going on. Would be nice if I could be notified when the app will be up again.

Two problems with this app. (1) Geolocation checks while on a mobile network always seem to be problematic and disqualify me from being able to play. All my phone location settings are set to allow your checks to accurately figure out where I am but I still get denied. I’d wager a bet that if I was lost, search and rescue would be able to pinpoint my location using the same connection to a mobile network significantly more accurately than this app can. (2) Setting preferences don’t save. I prefer to see Decimal odds vs either American or Fractional odds but have to go in and set that option up every time I login to the app (happens on the desktop version too). This one is more of a nuisance than anything else but seems like a no brainer option to build into the app right from the start. Come on Oregon Lottery, you can do much better than this.
