Facebook Feedback: A popular Houma music club closes

The Brick House’s announcement last week that the downtown Houma bar and music club is closing after 18 years attracted about 50 comments on The Courier and Daily Comet’s Facebook pages. Some blamed Gov. John Bel Edwards’ COVID restrictions, which have shut down or severely restricted business at most bars across Louisiana since the pandemic began in March. Here are elected, edited comments:

Opal Touchard: Well, we should send the governor a thank you card; he should be very happy for causing another business to go broke.

Karen Gray: Yes, you should send him a thank you for saving your life.

Kesha Robinson: Opal Touchard, send it to the president. Preparation is key. Had he been honest up front about how bad the virus could get, some of the problems that we’ve experienced could have been prevented.

Kyle Lirette: Man, they need to help them. That is a icon place in Houma. Hope someone reopens it with the same name.

Lynai Walker: This makes me so sad. They let my friends put on a benefit for us when my daughter passed away in 2013. This place has so many memories for me.

Roman Richards: Wow, I played shows there back in the day. Pretty sure I ordered my first beer at 21 there. This is sad.

Rebecca Bordelon: Awwww, this is where I met my husband.

Brandi Johnson: This is the only bar I go to when I ever go out I’m very sad about this.

Melanie Boudreaux: So many great memories. That’s really sad.

Halloween is on in Terrebonne

About four dozen of The Courier and Daily Comet Facebook followers commented on Terrebonne officials’ announcement that Halloween trick-or-treating will be allowed in the parish despite the pandemic. Member Jessica Domangue said she put the discussion on the Parish Council’s agenda in response to rumors the activity would be canceled.

Kayla Lirette Hebert: I always said I was doing Halloween even if the government said it wasn’t allowed.

Gene Milford: What I find interesting is that the government talked and they are gonna allow Halloween. As if the people have to have the government’s permission to have Halloween.

Shannan Brunet: Trick-or-treating you are usually a safe distance from others, but I would be worried about the candy wrappers and what might be on them. I guess instead of parents being worried and looking for open wrappers this year, parents will be disinfecting them.

Britt Adams: I didn’t know canceling Halloween was ever a question; most of the kids wear masks as part of their costumes anyway.

Lynn Scioneaux: Good decision.

Joe Chaisson: Hard to cancel an outdoor event when bingo halls and casinos have been open.
