What information do I need to complete the lottery application?
The lottery application requires you to have the following:
Social Security number for all household members
Date of birth for all household members
Current address
If I participate in the lottery, will this guarantee me a Section 8 HCV or an apartment? And how will I know about the lottery?
No, BRHA will hold a computer generated random drawing when the BRHA has a need for additional applicants. Notice of the drawing will be published in the Legal Notice Section of the Sun-Sentinel newspaper and on the BRHA website. The BRHA will make every effort to contact as many social service agencies in Palm Beach County as possible
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. You will receive a receipt with a confirmation number. If you cannot print this, copy down the number and keep it. This number will be used as your identification number.
If your lottery number is selected, the numbers drawn will be posted on the website and posted in numerical order.
How long will you keep the lottery entries?
If the Housing Authority needs to draw more applicants another lottery drawing from this group will be held. Numbers not drawn by May 14, 2011 will be discarded. This is why it is very important to keep your information updated.
Can I submit more than one lottery entry?
No, multiple entries will be voided.
Does it increase my chance of being selected if I enter the lottery on the first day?
No, that is the point of a lottery it does not give anyone a better opportunity of being selected regardless of when they enter. All lottery applicants from the first to the last will have the same chance of being drawn.

You should keep your receipt number and refer to it on all correspondence to the Housing Authority. It is very important to notify the Boca Raton Housing Authority by fax or mail if you move. All changes must be reported in writing. If we cannot contact you will not receive mail from us, and you will lose your place on the waiting list.
What happens after a person is selected?
After the computer generated lottery assigns numbers to each entry it will randomly select 400 families for each the Section 8 and the Public Housing list. The Housing Authority will then begin to individually qualify each family: order the list by preferences and begin to call families in as openings dictate. In order to qualify, the families must be income eligible, without drug or violent criminal activity within the last 5 years. Eligible families are offered rental housing in the private marketplace, or in our public housing. With the Voucher the family pays 30 percent of their adjusted income towards rent; and HUD subsidizes the remaining portion directly to the landlord via BRHA in the voucher program. In public housing the family pays 30 per cent of their adjusted income towards rent.
What should I do if I don’t have a Social Security Number?
You will not be able to complete the online application unless you have a Social Security Number. If you don’t have a Social Security card, then you should immediately go to www.socialsecurity.gov to get information on how and where to apply for your SSN card.
What if the head of household does not have eligible status?
In order to receive assistance at least one member of the family must have eligible status, this members’ social security number or alien registration number (do not use the letter when entering this) will be entered into the appropriate boxes next to his/her name.

Anyone who does not have eligible status will check a box next to his/her name indicating that they do not have eligible status. If selected, this household will classify as a mixed family and is eligible for prorated assistance.
