    Open to the Public- Come join us for bingo fun on the 1st and 3rd Sunday!

    Doors open at 3:30 pm; early bird play starts at 4:30 pm; regular games start at 5:00 pm; also available are instant ticket games, 50/50 and daubers. Food available on the 1st Sunday of the month only, but feel free to bring your own food and drinks (no alcohol). Nobody under the age of 18 permitted to enter.

    Saturday, Jan. 15

    Calling all soup makers: reserve your spot today to try for the title of Best Soup Chef in the area. The Yankeetown-Inglis Woman’s Club Soup-A-Thon will be Saturday, Jan. 15 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Bring your favorite soup and join your neighbors at #5 56th St., Yankeetown to try them all and vote for the best. All you can eat for $5. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three tastiest soups: 1st place $50, 2nd place $25 and 3rd place $10.
    The ladies of the club have been busy and will have a variety of crafts for sale as well as homemade baked goods. Don’t forget to check out the Thrift Store for new bargains before or after you sample the soups. Call the club at 352-447-2057 to reserve your spot or for more information.

    Levy GOP Meeting
    The Levy County Republican Executive Committee will resume monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month at Bubbaque’s Restaurant in Chiefland. The next meeting is Jan. 17 and will begin with food and fellowship at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. If you need a ride, call Juanita at 339-0747.
    The group is looking for Republicans who want to; 1) increase the Republicans in Levy County; 2) educate voters on issues; 3) increase Republican candidates; and 4) increase the voters at the polls.

    FOL Program
    The Friends of A.F. Knotts Public Library located at 11 56th Street in Yankeetown is partnering with the Florida Humanities Council to bring Dr. Gary Mormino to speak Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Dr Mormino will be speaking on “Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida”. The program is free and open to the public.

    Republican Club Meeting
    The January 2011 meeting of the Yankeetown-Inglis Republican Club will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the Inglis-Yankeetown Lions’ Club at Hwy 40 & 59th Street, Yankeetown. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. allowing for some socializing and a pot-luck dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
    The featured speaker will be Congressman Jimmie B. Smith, our recently elected State Representative for Florida District 43. Congressman Smith will also conduct the installation of the club’s officers for 2011 as follows: President–Donald Caldwell; Vice President– Kathleen Burke; Secretary–Carol Ross; Treasurer–Ellen Shannahan.

    Soup/Chili Lunch
    Join your friends and neighbors for a Soup/Chili Lunch on Sunday, Jan. 23 at the Williston Woman’s Club on Highway 121 North.
    A wide assortment of homemade soups and chilis will be accompanied by tossed salad, cornbread, crackers and yummy desserts. It will be an all-you-care-to-eat delight prepared by cooks from the woman’s club and the junior woman’s club.
    Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and the cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for those under 10. Proceeds will benefit the clubs’ projects.

    Wild Hog Race
    AMVETS Post 88 is gearing up for the 34th Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race on April 30. This marks the sixth year the post has hosted the race. Registration starts at 7:30. You can visit the website at for information and print the racer’s registration form. There is sure to be a category you can race in so get busy planning to have a great time at this year’s race.
    All proceeds go to help the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens. Hillary Cowart and The Magic Man will be on hand to show a few tricks and slight of hand as he amazes the crowd. For questions or information, please contact Margie McGarva at 352-486-2535.

    WMS Needs Washer/Dryer
    Williston Middle School athletics is in need of a washer and dryer to launder team uniforms. If anyone is considering new appliances and would like to donate their old ones they would love to give them a new home. They would be greatly appreciated and put to good use. Call the middle school if you can help.

    Dunnellon VFW Post 7991
    The Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3107 W. Dunnellon Rd, CR 488, Dunnellon presents: Breakfast, including a massive plate of victuals (10 items), is served the second and fourth Sunday of every month from 8:30 – 11 a.m. at a cost of $6. BINGO with a progressive jackpot is held every Friday from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Hot dogs, burgers and french fries are available. Open to the public.
    Regular monthly meeting of the post and auxiliary(s) is at 5 p.m. to eat, 6 p.m. to meet the third Thursday of every month.

    Painted Pizza Box Contest
    Angelina Mia’s Restaurant in Williston is offering a “Painted Pizza Box Contest” in conjunction with the Levy County Fair.
    Every month there will be a total of 30 boxes available to be picked up at the restaurant on West Noble Avenue.
    Paint the box any way you like and bring it back by the end of the month. Boxes will be judged monthly and the top three winners from each month will receive a free large pizza. They will also be displayed and judged at the Levy County Fair in the Creative Arts Tent during the April 2011 Fair.

    AmVets Post 444, located on Alt-27 just past the BP station on the left side headed toward Bronson, has Bingo every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The games are open to the public.
